Every summer, Pierce Pepin Cooperative Services (PPCS) offers a fun, educational and unique all-expense paid event that is planned by and for teenagers . . .  the Electric Cooperative Youth Leadership Congress (YLC).  Students attending YLC also have a chance to compete for post-high school educational scholarships from PPCS and the Wisconsin Electric Cooperative Association (WECA).

YLC program details:       

• YLC is held in July at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.  YLC will be held July 16-18, 2008.

• Participation is open to all students entering their junior or senior year of high school.

• The cost of transportation, registration, room and board fees is paid by PPCS.

• A signed Registration/Release form is required to attend the YLC.

• Register for YLC through your high school guidance counselor by May 23, 2008 or directly through PPCS by June 16, 2008.

Student Scholarships:

PPCS awards three $1,000 scholarships and WECA awards $1,000, $500 and $250 scholarships annually.  Carefully read the scholarship contest rules.  The same essay can be submitted to both PPCS and WECA.  Essays submitted to PPCS and WECA for the scholarship contests must be postmarked no later than August 25, 2008.   

ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE YOUTH TOUR:
The Electric Cooperative Youth Tour has brought high school students to Washington, D.C. every June since the late 1950s.  Over 1,500 young people and their chaperones from across the nation participate each year through their local electric cooperatives.  Students can earn this unique opportunity if elected to the Wisconsin Youth Board by their peers during the YLC.  Youth Board members also develop and plan the next year's YLC.
