Programs: Off-Peak Electric Water Heating

Off-Peak Electric Water Heating
Electric water heaters under load management make water heating with electricity competitive with other fossil fuels. PPCS has two programs available - storage heating and dual fuel heating – that may qualify for lower electric rates.
Electric Water Heater
Electric Water Heater Service: PPCS provides service for electric water heaters during regular business hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  The current service call rate will apply.

Off-Peak Storage Water Heating
Storage rate (winter):     5.5¢/kWh
Storage rate (summer):  8.0¢/kWh

Storage water heating offers you lower electric rates if you use some form of off-peak storage heating (5-kilowatt minimum), both under load management.  Your water is heated 10 hours each day during off-peak periods when the demand for electricity is less. This system provides sufficient storage capacity to supply your hot water needs if the unit is sized properly.

Off-Peak Dual Fuel Water Heating
Dual fuel rate (winter):    7.0¢/kWh
Dual fuel rate (summer): 9.2¢/kWh

Dual fuel water heating offers you lower electric rates if you use some form of off-peak dual fuel heating (5-kilowatt minimum), both under load management.  Electric water heaters on this rate may be interrupted at various times throughout the day based on the demand for electricity.

Note:  Proper installation of the current transformer (CT) sub-metering of off-peak electric systems is illustrated in our Wiring Diagram.

Electric Water Heater Rebates apply for 80 gallon or larger units under load management. Water heater can be purchased from PPCS or any vendor.
