Electric Service
Information about new electric service construction and the meter socket installation
guidelines and diagrams are available in our
New Service Handbook. To begin the
process for new electric service, please contact us at (715) 273-4355, (800) 924-2133, or
at info@piercepepin.com.
Surge Protection
Todays sophisticated electronic homes are more vulnerable than ever to fluctuations
in the electric power supply. Although PPCS provides clean, quality
power, surges can happen. Damaging surges can enter your home through
phone lines, cable or satellite TV hardware, and through the power
lines. Surges can also occur when large appliances such as
refrigerators, air conditioners and microwave ovens cycle on and off. To
protect your valuable electronics and appliances, PPCS has access to a full line of surge suppression
products.
UPS Systems
(Uninterruptible Power Supply)
A UPS system may be necessary to provide temporary backup power to such things as cash
registers or computer systems. A UPS also provides protection against power spikes,
surges, sags and other subtle conditions that may not be noticeable.

Load Management
Load management is a key part of PPCS’ goal to keep your
rates low. Members who participate in our load management programs
receive discounted rates and may be eligible for rebates and incentives,
depending on the type of program. Not only do these members save
money—all members benefit.
The demand for electric
energy fluctuates throughout the day and from season to season.
When electrical demand increases, utilities use load management
techniques to maximize the efficiency of electric generation and
transmission facilities.
Our
load management programs help PPCS to manage electric load during peak
periods of demand, which reduces the wholesale power costs paid to
Dairyland Power Cooperative, our wholesale power supplier. Peak demand
periods usually occur on a daily basis between 6:00-10:00 a.m. and
5:00-9:00 p.m. Seasonal peak demand periods occur during the coldest or
hottest weather days or nights.
Members who participate in these programs allow PPCS to switch off
equipment like water heaters, electric heating systems, and air
conditioners automatically through a radio signal-based load management
system to qualify for rebates and incentives and/or reduced electric rates.
Since the equipment being interrupted is not contributing to the peak
electrical demand, the extra costs associated with meeting these high
demands are avoided.
PPCS offers several load management programs to its members. These
programs are available only if PPCS provides electric service to a
member’s home or business and the equipment is connected to our load
management system. Load management receivers are provided and installed
by PPCS at no additional cost to the member.

Dual-Fuel Heating
Dual fuel heating, as the name implies, uses two separate sources -
electric heating together with another automatic fuel source, such as
oil or gas, for backup. The backup heating source is set to
automatically come on when the electric heat is switched off.
Radiant Floor Heating
Radiant floor heating is supplemental heating that uses one of two
systems - electric cable in the floor or a mini boiler system that
circulates warm water through tubing in the floor.
Electric Cable Floor Heating: This system uses a buildings
foundation and the ground below it to store heat. Electricity is converted to heat using a
specially designed electrical resistance cable buried in a sand bed beneath the floor slab
and the heat radiates through the slab into the interior of the building.
Hydronic Floor Heating: This system, installed by your heating contractor,
circulates warm water through tubing in the floor to heat your living space. The heat in
these tubes radiates to the floor surface and rises evenly throughout the room above. The
result is evenly distributed room temperatures at a lower energy cost. The water for this
system can be heated with electricity, propane or natural gas, or with a
geothermal heat pump.
STEP WarmfloorTM
Radiant Heating
PPCS offers an alternative radiant heat option that is ideal for
remodeling projects or new construction. This self-regulating
system uses specially designed electric heating mats that are 100
percent efficient because all electrical power is directly transferred
to heat. It is ideal for existing homes because it is thin,
flexible and can be easily installed under almost any flooring. It
won't change the height of molding, doors or cabinets.
Electric Thermal
Storage (ETS) Heating
Electric Thermal Storage
(ETS) room/central heating units
are room-size heaters that work like a thermos. Insulated brick-like
material inside the chamber stores heat during the nighttime hours when
electricity costs are less. Then when the heat is needed, a blower
directs air through the core of heated bricks and out into the room.
Rebate: Rebate is available for
ETS heating.

Electric Water Heating
All electric water heaters electrically served by PPCS must be connected
to PPCS' load management system.
Electric water heaters are stocked in four sizes to meet all household
requirements. The 50, 80 and 120 gallon Rheem®
Vanguard water heaters feature a metal tank with a metal outer shell.
The 105 gallon Marathon®
water heater features a durable plastic tank and outer shell. PPCS
promotes only high efficiency electric water heaters with first-rate
warranties.
Off-peak Managed Water Heating
Off-peak electric rates are available for electric water heating if the
member also uses some form of off-peak electric heat. Under this
program, water heats during times when demand for electricity is
less—such as during the nighttime hours and for several hours in the
afternoon—and draws on the reserve of hot water in the tank during
periods when demand is higher.
Managed Electric Water Heating
Electric water heaters are not eligible for off-peak electric rates
without some form of off-peak electric heat.
PPCS provides service for
electric water heaters at the member’s expense based on the current
service call rate.
Rebates:
Rebates are
available for electric water heaters connected to PPCS' load management
system.
Water Softeners
A full line of Water-Right®
water softeners are available for purchase. Since hard water can
seriously affect the efficiency and useful life of electric water
heaters, it’s important to have your water tested. Bring a water sample
to PPCS for a FREE water test.
